Agency: Kilpatrick Design
Role: Principal UX Design

The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation is the primary fundraising tool and trusted steward of the Blue Ridge Parkway, through an agreement with the Dept. of Interior and the National Park Service. They are a strong defender of the Parkway, funding needed projects that enhance and protect the natural, cultural, historic and recreational qualities that make the Blue Ridge Parkway a national treasure. Sine 1997 they have raised $10 million towards parkway initiatives and programs: including Education & Outreach, Historical & Cultural Preservation, Visitor Amenities and Natural Resources.

Their website was old and messy and didn't allow for easy management. This site needed to be modular, user friendly and evoke a trust and connection to the Foundation.

Their website was old and messy and didn't allow for easy management. This site needed to be modular, user friendly and evoke a trust and connection to the Foundation. The site was built as a collaboration between Kilpatrick Design and I. Building in Drupal allowed for great flexibility on the client side and easy drag and drop images while online mockups with text allowed for automatic updates.

The redesign updated their image, increased viewership and created a fully client managed site that didn't require a lot of supervision. BRPF was excited by the possibilities and couldn't wait to get started on updating for their own future projects.

The BRPF team was able to

  • Save money by self-servicing through CRM rather than pay agencies to update ($15,000/year)

  • Cut posting and social management time by 20%, freeing up team to do more critical work

  • Increased engagement and visibility through SEO and updated site
